The Alligators were formed in 1942 by two ex-naval ratings who were pretty nifty with a penny-whistle. After a few minor gigs in and around the back streets of Portsmouth they were run out of town on a rail as they were appallingly bad.
They moved to Newcastle, where they teamed up with two council bin-men and an unemployed gravedigger called Norman.

Since hitting the big time in 1963 they have played venues holding as many as eleven people, and on two memorable occasions were actually *paid* for their work.

The Alligators can be seen performing their current set in any pub which will serve them. And for a packet of Smoky Bacon crisps they will perform their trademark 'Warsaw Concerto' on the penny whistle.

Don't miss them.....they're not long for this world!!
